ISAAC TYMMS
“The world we knew won't come back.
The time we've lost can't get back.
The life we had won't be ours again. . .
This world will never be what I expected;
And if I don't belong. . ?
Even if I say it'll be alright--
Still I hear you say you want to end your life?
Now and again we try to just stay alive;
Maybe we'll turn it around, 'cause it's not too late.
It's never too late. . .”
NICKNAMES: Headmaster, Mr. Tymms
GROUP:Dreamer/Staff
AGE: 71
BIRTHDAY: May 21
OCCUPATION: Headmaster and Founder of Haven
GENDER: Male
PLAY-BY: Ian McKellen
Bright blue eyes seem to have a constant gloss to them, a shine that presumes tears. Isaac looks like a sad and weary man, but he constantly has a smile for the people around Haven. He constantly seems deep in thought, as if the cure to the world's problems--or at least Haven's--was right out of his reach, and if he just thought about it a little longer, he would have it.
Tymms is a tall man, standing at 6'1" and lean, with a body well taken care of over the years, and the way he carries himself speaks volumes to his affluence. His hair has gone grey and white with age. His gait is brisk no matter where he goes. He dresses sharply, in suits and armani shirts. His skin is covered in the degradation of age, the wrinkles seeming more a mark of prestige on him than a sign of coming demise.
On his left ring finger is a small, gold band which he never removes, and his hair is thin and cropped short where it isn't receding away from his forehead.
On the surface, Isaac is always calm and in control. He answers questions and comforts the displeased children as they arrive. He's usually the first face anyone sees when they enter the grounds of Haven, always standing at the door to the chamber they are transported in. His smile is warm and inviting, and his paternal presence helps usher in those who are terrified to be here.
Beneath that exterior of warmth and soothing calm is a man haggard with worry, who often loses sleep for days while collaborating with the researchers and scientists trying to understand the Dreamer phenomenon. Isaac fears another accident more than anything he has ever feared in his seven decades of life.
Isaac is patient, but he is unwilling to accept failure and does not give any grey area for excuses to relieve oneself of responsibility. Excuses have no place with him, which can lend him to being harsh and uninviting to most other humans, like a strict parent with rigid rules. He does not make close connections with those around him, neither the children nor the staff of Haven. This pathos is a result of his fear, and he has identified it as such, but he doesn't seek to right it.
At the end of the day, the most defining part of his motivation and inner pathos is guilt. Isaac believes that he is responsible for Haven, and the children inside of it. He believes that his most important goal is to change the fates of the children here, at any cost, to make up for the great disaster that happened four years ago.
Isaac Tymms was a wealthy businessman and scientist. A professional knowledge-seeker, Tymms great adventures lead him all over the world and more often than not abandoned his family to his large manse at home. He visited places for too long on his educational and philanthropic trips to bring along his young granddaughter, since she was going to school, and his wife wanted to stay with their son and his wife and their granddaughter. It wasn't that he neglected them, but that he was in constant motion. Someone had to live and bring it home to them--someone had to make money, and that was Isaac. His family wanted for nothing, and they were happy in those times.
When his granddaughter started making weird noises in the night, they hired the best doctors. Nobody knew what was happening. They sought the help of the experts, and months passed on. Research was done, and Isaac made himself only slightly more available on the homefront. Instead, he studied abroad, and asked around the world. Nobody was more intent on helping his granddaughter than him, but, in hindsight, perhaps he went about it the wrong way.
Two months of the incurable strangeness continued. Isaac's granddaughter was put through stressful tests and taken out of school. Her life was shaken apart, and her disorder progressed quickly. Certain studies became clear, small insight into what was going on, and Isaac became aware of the Reverie, and of Chimerism. But he was not prepared for the next step in the evolution of his life.
The accident four years ago, when his granddaughter had some startling evolution that removed his family from the map along with their nearest neighbors, before she was finally shot and killed in defense.
After that, Isaac stopped for a while. He didn't know what to do for months.
But mourning and sitting down to die was not in Isaac's future. Another Dreamer made it onto the news, and Isaac found his new passion. Using his vast amounts of money, he set up Haven and the process by which it operates. Organizing and pouring over what knowledge he had, he employed volunteers who were aware of the danger and risks, and he sought to stop this from happening to any other family.
Soon after, a school was established, as the Dreamers that came had both been of schooling age. Haven was in the most beautiful--and remote--place Isaac could put it. He built it to look almost whimsical, and it was his pet project. A year of hard work erected what is now known as Haven, and revealed a new breakthrough--Chimerism proved to be contagious when concentrated so thoroughly into one area.
When Isaac realized he was venturing into the Reverie, he was first overjoyed at the possibility of taking information back with him, and then he was struck by an overwhelming sense of dread. This made him a liability--and all of them were in danger now. If another cataclysm happened, who knew what it could trigger?
Isaac redoubled his efforts.
