A feeling of relief spread through Chu, Elliot is straight. Thank god.
Chu had spent the past 6 weeks having conflicting emotions. He wasn't sure why, but he was attracted to Akio. He had tried to ignore his emotions; he'd fallen for the "heroic" type before and they always were egotistical and eventually got bored with him and all of his issues. He knew that the only person in the world who didn't mind him and all of his problems was Melly. Melly had never let him down before. Melly truly loved him and cared about him. But, if he already had someone perfect, then why did he feel so attracted to Aki? He didn't want to make Aki a "Melly Replacement", that wouldn't be fair to any of them. He didn't want to break Melly's heart either.
His deep brown eyes drifted down to stare at himself in the water. Even though his self-esteem was higher than it had been in 2 years, he couldn't let himself fall out of love with Melly. Aki was just a friend, and Chu needed to make sure that Aki stayed a friend. Nothing more. He'd swallow his feelings, and would try to ignore his longing for Aki's love.
His brown eyes lifted from the waters surface when he heard Aki invite him to a party. He was slightly surprised by the invitation, he'd never been invited to a party. He wasn't sure if he would have a good time or not, or if Aki's friends would really like him, or if he'd be made fun of. But, When he saw the excitement and happiness in Aki's eyes his heart melted. When Aki smiled it was like sunshine. All of the doubt he had melted away and Chu answered,
"Yes." He gently smiled back at him, "Yes, I'd love to go to the with you." He spoke softly, and didn't stutter. It was rare to not hear him stutter on his words.
Chu turned his face and caught their reflection in the motionless pool water, they did look strange together. Also in the water he noticed a clock hanging on the wall, 3:00pm.
"Uh oh."
He stood and reached for his black bag and pulled out a scrap of paper and a pencil, he scribbled something down on to the paper and handed it to Aki.
"Here. That is my number why don't you call me tonight or in a few days with more info on the party? I need to go because I'm going to be late for work." Chu hobbled over to his belongings as fast as he could, pulled on a gray hoodie, and then proceeded to shove everything else into his bag. He threw the bag over his shoulder and headed over to Aki.
There was a gentle smile on his face, "Thank you for everything you've done for me. It... It really..." a soft blush crawled on to his cheeks, "It really meant a-alot." his slender arms lifted ever so slightly to give Aki a hug, but he stopped himself. He pulled his arms tightly into his sides, and bawled his hands up.
Don't develop your feelings for him, you love Melly. You've always been in love with Melly.
Instead, Chu bowed to Aki. "Thank you, a-again." He stood straight and made his way to the door, "I don't work very far from here, so I'll walk myself to work."
With that bow, Chu opened the door and left Aki standing by the pool.
Chu closed the door behind him and pressed his back firmly against the cold steel door and sighed a miserable sigh. His heart ached a bit, leaving in such a hurry and not hugging him goodbye. He closed his eyes, and briefly thought about running back in and hugging him tightly.
But he couldn't fall any more in love with him.
