For Your Consideration
.In sleep he sang to me
Pawns: Vee, Ben
.In dreams he came
Status: open/active
.That voice which calls to me
Setting: Researcher lab's staff lounge
.And speaks my name
Scene: Vee and Ben meet to discuss research and tests
.Inside my mind
"Yes Dad, everything's going well." Vee murmured into the phone, slowly leaning back against the Formica counter tops of the Haven Research lab's staff room. Vee cast a glance around the medium-sized room, listening to her father recount a story of a dinner party with her mother's friends. She didnt have much interest in her mother's snooty friends, but it was nice to hear her father's voice no matter what he was saying. It had been far too long since she'd last seen them. She hadnt quite thought things through when she'd rushed off the take the job as head of the Awakening Research department, so of course she hadn't thought that she wouldn't be allowed to leave Haven. In fact, it hadn't even struck her that she wasn't allowed to leave until she'd Woken up in the Reverie as Seppa.
Vee gave another sigh and tapped the toe of her heel on floor, casting another forlorn glance around at the microwave, the bank of coffee pots and drawers of creamer and sugar, and the refrigerator. Vee tended to avoid all these machines at all costs. She'd worked in a lab for years now. She knew what some people put in those machines. She made a face at the fridge, the worst offender, and finally turned her attention back to her father. "Yeah it's still pretty crazy here. We get new kids all the time...." She smiled as her father launched into his usual pep talk, telling her she was doing a great thing and that her research and the research of everyone else where bringing these kids, and herself, closer and closer to coming home.
A chance glance at the clock made her eyes go wide. "Dad. I gotta go. Meeting with a colleague." She rolled her eyes when her father began to excitedly ask her what it was about. "Dad you know I cant tell you that." She had to tell him that at least every time they spoke. "Ok I have to go...Yes Seppa's fine...Ok love you too. bye." Just as she hung up, she caught movement out of the corner of her eye. 'Goddammit!' she hissed in her mind as she turned and walked across the room to meet Dr. Benedict Hidzenboosh; one of the few researchers studying the psychology of the Dreamers. "Sorry Im late." She smiled apologetically. "My parents..." she gestured to the phone on the wall. "Anyway, I have everything with me. We can just talk in here if that's ok." she offered him a friendly smile.
