He sighed and jumped, grabbing hold of the girl in mid air. He fell to the ground, the first imagine in his head creating it. As he struck the ground, a flurry of pink petals filled the air. He looked up.
The grass was soft and green. A light breeze ran through the surrounding cherry trees, causing more petals to fall from their branches. He stood, still clutching the girl in his arms.
"Are you alright?" He looked down at her with concern, a few stray hairs wisping across his face. The pony tail also swished across the back of his haori. Pink cherry blossoms moved through the air.
"This is why you must be careful. Your imagination is a powerful thing. It can also cause a great deal of problems." He didn't really realize he was still holding the girl as he spoke to her.
"You must always plan things through, Qi. Otherwise, you won't live to reach enlightenment." His face was still stoic. Eyes sharp and watchful, but with the slightest concern in the blue orbs.

Qi had closed her eyes before Niten had caught her. When the air stopped blowing from her falling, she finally cracked her eyes open. She slowly looked up at him. Was she alright? She nodded, a lump in her throat. The petals were beautiful as a background. Were they swirling around? No, she was imagining things--that meant she was moving them? She forced her brain back to logic instead of running with her imagination as she did previously. She understood when he said imagination was powerful. Her heart still hammered and she tried to swallow. It didn't work well. She closed her eyes and forced the lump down.
She said this before kissing his cheek--a habit she got from who knows where. Maybe it was because that Melody always wanted to do that, and Qi hated Melody's fear thus felt she had to do whatever it was Melody could never bring herself to do. Then she tried to get on her own two feet. Her hair was a mess and her skirt was wrinkled. GASP! But her jacket was the worst! It was all misshaped and crooked. As soon as she could, she would fix her appearance right away! How dare a girl not look presentable in front of someone!

He nodded. "You are welcome. I did swear to protect you, did I not?" He tilted his head to the side lightly. He blinked as she kissed his cheek.
Niten had never been given such attention. He hadn't ever done anything but fight and duel. He was frozen for a moment, trying not to portray his shock.
He was failing miserably.
A light blush crossed his cheeks. And his eyes widened just slightly. He looked down at her in his arms. He wanted to ask a question but couldn't seem to form words. The cherry trees still stood around them, petals still floating on the air perpetually.
This place was where Niten imagined the most peace and tranquility. When he did find himself trapped in the illusion, it was what he pictured to last through the night. It was where he meditated and trained. He didn't often show it to others. But, it wasn't often he interacted with others who wanted anything but a fight.
He realized he wasn't breathing.
He took a steady breath to catch up and not start gasping like a fool. She was still in his arms, clothing slightly ruffled from the fall. He blinked down at her.
"I... seem to have disheveled your clothing. My apologies." He tipped his head forward slightly, forming a bow without using his entire body.

Qi noticed the blush and blushed slightly herself. She had noticed everything and felt herself smile. She looked down at her appearance once more.
"Oh, that's to be expected when rescued I suppose."
She looked up and noticed he had bowed his head. She gently touched the side of his face.
"So don't worry about it, ok? I mean, what's some messed up clothes compared to being alive?"
Her eyes shimmered with good will and joy. If it wasn't for him, she would have been dead--or awake? She bit her lip as she thought before sitting up and giving him a quick kiss on the lips then attempting to jump out of his arms to fix her clothing.

This kiss took him completely off guard. He looked at her. Just staring. She was pretty. He hadn't really looked at her before. Niten had never taken the chance to look at anyone. But she was forcing him to become adamantly aware of the fact that he could find beauty in a person, not just assess their potential in a fight.
He was made aware that she wanted down by the sudden squirming in his arms. "Ah! Forgive me." He leaned forward and set her on the ground. He looked up at the skyline, trying not to look at her.
The blush was subsiding as he focused on the horizon, checking for possible intruders, enemies, anyone of the sort. The sun had begun to set on his scene, despite the fact that it had been morning just moments before.
But Niten liked the sunset.
"Qi, may I ask you a question?" He continued not to look at her. "Do you make a habit of..." he hesitated just a moment "kissing those you barely know?" He glanced at her slightly from the corner of his eye. "Is it your form of gratitude? Something you do commonly?"
He wasn't really sure why he wanted to know. Maybe if she played it off as a common occurrence, he wouldn't feel so... confused. And maybe then he could return to his stoicism.

When she was set down, she fixed her clothes first then her hair. When she was messing with her hair, he asked her the question. She paused and thought about it. She made sure she was standing beside him and looked at the sunset.
"To be honest... that was my first kiss. So, I think the answer is obvious."
She smiled at him then looked at the sun set.
"Your imagination... I think it's beautiful by the way... I don't think I could have ever come up with anything even close to this."
She put her hands on her hips and noticed the petals finally. She turned from the sunset and started towards the trees. The petals were... endless it seemed. She stared up into the branches, in awe at it. One fell in her face and she blinked, slightly startled from being so enthralled. She turned to him.
"For one who always seems so focused on order, your imagination seems to discard it."
As she said this, she motioned to the petals. Not that she was complaining, mind you.

The blush returned, but Niten hoped it wouldn't be noticeable in the dimming reddish light. Somehow, he wasn't sure if her response made him feel better... or worse.
It certainly made his mind spin. Niten had focused on combat his entire existence. He had not seen anything but as he ran through the Reverie fighting and defending.
This was a much different feeling. He listened to her words and shock appeared fully on his features. He was silent a moment, eyes wide, mouth just lightly agape. "Thank you. It is where I meditate and train." He looked at her from the corner of his eyes again.
"In every mind there is some chaos. However, the order is what keeps this chaos in check. One must release the chaos in some form, or it shall rule them." He looked over at one of the trees. "The twisted branches and disordered trees allow an outlet for such chaos. When I meditate, they are still." He looked down at the grass, petals crushed beneath his feet.
"They are always in bloom here." He reached up and caught a petal as it drifted in front of him.

"I see. That makes sense."
She walked back towards him. She spoke as she walked for the next bit. Of course her pace is slow. After each question, he would pause for an answer.
"Is all of this... place like this? Where imagination so easily controls the world around us? Where are you from? If this is imagination and dreams... do nightmares come to life too? Does this mean we aren't...?"
Real? The last question trailed off as she stopped beside him. She looked at the last of the sun, her body still facing him. Her hands had some how found their way behind her back. Her heels were together and her shoulders were relaxed.
"Forget what I was about to ask. I don't want to know..."
She had a few questions that she could word and so many more that she couldn't even fathom. Would he eventually get upset with her constant investigation for something that must be so vast? She wouldn't know until she tried. She looked at him fully, her head tilted slightly to the side. Her hair was slightly messed up again from the wind playing with the petals and had a few petals stuck in her hair. Her eyes were strong, asking for answers while her face was soft, confused and delicate.

As she wandered in front of him, he found he had no choice but to look down into her eyes. His had softened slightly as the conversation had continued, and she looked up at him with so much curiosity. She had an inner strength he could see, that her brown eyes showed him even while she had not herself expressed it.
"Yes. The Illusion, this place, it is all made of imagination. Thoughts and dreams." He dropped the petal, allowing it to fall at his feet with the others. "I am from a realm that is home to others like myself. Samurai and such."
He looked into her eyes. "Yes. Nightmares are also alive. There is a place just for them. A Nightmare realm. It is constantly at war." He reached up and traced the scar on his cheek. "It is there that I received this."
He knew the question she didn't finish. And despite her attempt to cover it, he felt the desire to explain. He sighed and reached up, taking a petal from her hair and allowing his fingers to slide against her forehead just lightly. "Can you feel me? Yes. Of course you can. You can hear me. See me." He didn't move his hand but glanced around him. "You can feel the breeze through the trees. You can smell the fragrant petals." He returned his eyes to her.
"We are no less real than those who exist on the other side. We are beings who think, and act, feel and..." he stopped himself from saying love. For some reason, that seemed like the wrong word to use around her.
He had no idea how to express emotion. He was a strong, stoic individual. And passion was not something he thought he could possess. But he couldn't take his eyes off of her.

She nodded her understanding. Now she was transfixed with the scar. She reached up and ran a finger along the scar. She looked over his face. She licked her lips before her eyes stared into his.
"I'm sorry... that you got hurt... bad enough for it to scar..."
She spoke softly, emotions ringing through her voice strong and true. She let her hand drop slowly. She looked down, her mouth open to say something but no words coming out. She blushed slightly as she started to turn around.
"The other side... I know about that oddly..."
She shook her head. That wasn't her world. She didn't want to know about that. She realized he had pulled the petal from her hair and her hands flew to the top of her head. Her jaw dropped.
"I swear, sometimes I think it's easier to have no hair at all!"
She began to try to straighten her hair and remove the petals from it. As she did this, she asked another question.
"If it's night here, would it be night at my house as well?"

He shook his head lightly as her hand fell from his cheek. "I am used to it. I have been hurt many times in combat. But I would rather have a scar and be alive."
As she turned, he watched her form, his eyes falling down from top of her head down to the bottom of her skirt. He stopped and raised his eyes quickly. He hadn't meant to let his eyes stray.
"Yes. The other world. We must seem like the other world to them. It is a paradox. With no answer. All I know is that I bleed and think independent thoughts, thus making me a being of my own."
He took half a step closer, pushing her hands from her hair and running his fingers through the soft strands, causing the petals to fall from it as he did so. "Your hair is beautiful. It would be a pity for you to be without it. It suits you so well."
He didn't move back, but stayed close behind her, his hand drifting through her hair lightly. "I do not know. Does it ever become dark at your home? I do not know if there is truly a gauge of time in this realm, or any other."
He was afraid she would want to leave. Afraid...? Somehow the emotion didn't make sense. He'd never been afraid. He'd fought ogres and Onii and fiends. He'd bravely pitted his skill against all manner of foe. And somehow, this teenage girl who was no threat to him at all, was causing him to fear.
"I will be happy to escort you home whenever you desire." He didn't move, but waited for a response.
The sunset reflected off of her hair and skin beautifully. He knew he would wake up eventually. That the other world would be waiting. But he didn't want to tonight.
For some reason, he truly wanted to stay with this girl, a girl he'd just met.

She blushed when he made the comment about her hair. She closed her eyes after the petals were gone. When he asked about the sun, she answered in a soft voice.
"Yes, some times. I normally go to sleep before that happens."
when he made the comment about escorting her home, she spun around. He was closer than she thought. She had to steady herself, so she placed her hands on his chest and looked at him.
"I would be super grateful if you could, but I don't want to leave yet. I want to know more about the world--worlds--and about you--and your travels--and the other people. Maybe, if you would like, you can eat with my family if you are hungry. My mother is making pork chops and potatoes tonight with peas on the side."
She stared up at him hopefully. She couldn't help but smile up at him. She was happy that she had met someone like him instead of a nightmarish person. That would have probably scared her into staying home. She lightly bit her bottom lip in anticipation.

She turned so quickly. And then she was there, touching his chest lightly. He felt himself lose control over his own heartbeat. His usually perfect composure, broken by just her touch.
Niten was confused. So very confused. He liked the warmth in his cheeks, the feeling of weightlessness in his heart. The touch of her fingers on his chest.
He put a hand on each of her shoulders, holding her in place. He'd seen that she had nearly lost her balance, and reacted to keep her from falling.
"I will be here to protect you. You may stay here as long as you like." He contemplated eating with her family, looking into her eyes as they seemed to beg him.
He sighed heavily. He didn't know how well he would be in a family situation. "I will tell you everything you wish to know. Everything that I know. And I will answer any questions. Even about myself." He continued to buy himself time, considering her proposal.
The way she bit her lip then. Smiling up at him, he leaned down, his face inches from hers. "I... would be happy to sit with you. And your family." His breath brushed against her lips. He slowly continued to lean forward until it was his lips that brushed against hers.
He pressed their lips together slowly, reluctantly pulling them apart again. "You were my first kiss, as well." He continued to hold her, his eyes locked on hers, heart pounding against her hand. His own hair was being brushed against his cheek by the wind, and cherry blossoms would occasionally move between them.

Her knees almost buckled and she was happy he was still holding onto her shoulders. She didn't know what caused the next thing. Was it the ability to ask any question she felt? That he would not only walk her home, but eat dinner with the family? Or was it that they both had their first kiss together? No matter what the cause, she felt the blush come to her face. She smiled just a bit more just before she did it. She moved closer as she threw her arms around his neck and kissed him. Her imagination boomed and the petals that had landed on the ground exploded into the air harmlessly. Sprouts of different colored flowers tried to grow in the grass at her feet.

Niten inhaled sharply in shock. Her lips felt good against his, and he could feel her smiling. Her arms flung around his shoulders and he released her for just a moment. His arms fell down around her waist and pulled her close.
Why do I feel this way? How did this occur? How did I let this happen? And so... quickly...
A part of him rebelled against the onslaught of emotion, unaccustomed to the feelings flowing through him. It wanted him to shut them off, stop the lack of control it created. He wasn't thinking this through! He was letting emotion guide him not reason!
He told that part of himself to be silent.
His hands pressed into her back, sliding against the soft fabric of her jacket. She was warm and delicate. Her inner strength was there, and it made her brave. But she was still so... naive.
