Vee's smile widened and she looked up at him happily. "Of course! Just let me know when you wanna go."
She set down her last meatball and turned to go check on the sauce. She stirred the sauce carefully, pleased to see that it was cooking well. It smelled absolutely heavenly. She pulled a spoon from one of the drawers in the counter and scooped some of the thick, bright red sauce up.
"Here, try this." She urged, walking back over to Ben and holding the spoon up in front of his mouth. "Careful though, it's hot." She really hoped he liked it, otherwise this probably would have been for naught, determined as she was to get him to eat better than he was.
'I'll have to go to the store with him next time he goes shopping. No more of this tomato-soup-from-a-can-dried-ramen-pbj bullshit.' She hated seeing her friends so thin, and she was sure as hell going to fix it.

Ben was about to open his mouth to tell her any time she wanted to go when she walked to the pan. He watched her curiously. When the spoon was placed in front of him. He blinked then smelled the spoonful. It smelled good. He gently placed his hand over hers to insure the spoon wouldn't wiggle or something of the like. He closed his eyes and took a small bite. As he savored the taste--it was fantastic--he still held her hand, afraid she'd take the rest away or move away from him. When he swallowed, he gave her a half smile.

Vee nodded, a light blush coloring her cheeks. Why was he so damn attractive? 'Shit, no. No! Bad Vee. Don't mess this up.'
"Mhm.." 'Why can't you function?! Function dammit!' Maybe her brain had melted or something. It needed to un-melt right this instant, or face consequences later. She wasn't sure what those consequences would be, but they would be dire. Now work! Still no movement, just kinda stuck there, staring at Ben.

He gently took the spoon from her and blew on the still hot sauce. He then cupped one hand under the spoon and offered it to her. He was hunched forward to be about her height. His eyes watched her closely. His body was relaxed and trusting. His face was open, and caring. He licked his lips slightly, cleaning the last of the sauce off of their soft surfaces. His rolled up sleeves of his shirt from before were falling loose a bit, and was slightly disheveled, showing a bit more of his neckline and chest. If he knew it was that loose, he made no signs. If he knew his hair fell just shy of his eye and traced his brow, he made no notion. His breathing was slow, calm, and made his chest barely move, causing the shirt to shift between glances at a slender neck and a hairless chest.

Vee leaned forward and took the spoon in her mouth, sucking the sauce off and pulling back. She hadn't hardly breathed since he'd moved closer to offer her the last of the sauce. Not that she'd noticed, with him so close. She could feel how warm he was and smell him from this rather short distance.
She took a tiny step back, licking her lips slowly. "S'good..." She murmured quietly. A moment longer, and she pulled back completely, forcing herself to breathe. "Alright, let's get the meatballs cooking then." She said softly, grabbing another pan off the counter and carrying it slowly over to the cook top. She put the sauce on a back burner and set the pan down, reaching for the olive oil again.
"Ben, could you bring the meat over here?" Vee asked softly, looking back at him as she turned up the burner and poured in the oil.

He nodded and put the spoon on the counter and did as he was told. He set the pain with the meatballs down on the counter space next to the stove and that was when he notice he had some tomato juice on the white fabric. He frowned and to keep from getting the shirt dirtier he began to take it off. He wandered to his desk as he undid the last few buttons. He glanced at the screen. His sister again. He frowned as he took his shirt off and tossed it on the phone. He started to return to the kitchen, his pants hung securely on his hips, keeping his shape. He had a smooth chest with lean muscle that, when the light hit it right, was a small six pack.
"Sorry about that, don't want to get the shirt any dirtier."
He felt he needed to explain that just in case his under dressed person made her uncomfortable. He didn't hunch now, so his full form could be seen clear and unmarred.

Vee looked back and instantly regretted it.
"N-no, it's fine..." Damn him! Was he doing this on purpose just to get a rise out of her? Some how that didn't sound like Ben. She sighed softly and added the meat into the pan as soon as the oil was hot enough. She was being ridiculous! Like those girls she routinely saw out on the streets of Haven, giggling over some boy or another. She'd never been like that before, ever! Maybe if she called her mother...no, that was a bad idea. She didn't want to give her mom any false hopes of grandchildren or something.
"Could you put the spaghetti in the water Ben?" She asked, working with the meat. The noodles would only take about 7 minutes and the meat just a tad longer, though it would have to rest for a bit. She hoped she wasn't flushed all down her neck and shoulders like she tended to. Of course he'd...have to be right next to her to put the dried noodles into the water on the cook top. Shit.

He nodded and moved to be next to her. He took the noodles and eyed the pan size. Breaking them in half would seem to fit better. So he did, breaking them down so that the smaller pieces would fall into the water. Then he would gently put the pieces in the water so there wouldn't be a splash. He wiped his hands off on the other, letting the 'dust' of the noodles fall off his hands. He was interested in what she was cooking now so he leaned slightly over her shoulder to look.
"How can you tell when they are done?"
He asked at out genuine curiosity. If he took a deep breath or if she jumped, they were sure to touch. Though the closeness didn't bother him. Not with Vee.

"Ill cut a smaller one open in a minute. If it's done, the one's smaller than it and around the same size should be too. If they aren't, they'll finish cooking as they're resting. I do the bigger ones the same, just a littler longer than the smaller ones."
So close. He was so. Close. She swallowed hard, fighting not to tense up. It seemed the tables had turned for them, she thought wryly. She'd figured he'd be more tense than she was, and he wasn't. She frowned suddenly. Well if he could be so relaxed, with how he'd been when they'd first met, why couldn't she. Yeah. There was no reason to be so tense, not with Ben.
Vee released a small sigh and let her tensed muscles relax, even leaning towards him a little, her back pressing to his midsection and chest. It was much easier to relax. It wasn't like she had anything to worry about from Ben. She trusted him, just like he trusted her.

He blinked when she leaned against him. He gave a small, ever so slight smile and placed his hands on her shoulder. He would have to learn to trust, be trusted, and to not be afraid. To be welcoming of others, person and emotions. He nodded his understanding about the meat balls and continued to watch until is phone started to go off again. He growled in his throat as he went to his phone. He snatched it up from under his shirt and looked at it. His sister was calling him. He was tempted to answer to give her another mental lashing but didn't. Instead, he took the battery out of the phone and tossed it back down. He stared at it, as if waiting and daring it to go off again. Finally, he started back to the kitchen.
"I apologize for that."
He leaned on the door frame now, watching her cook. Fascinating, he concluded. That was what Vee was. Fascinating.

She made a mournful little sound at the back of his throat when he went to check his phone. He'd hardly been gone a second and she already felt cold. This was going to be difficult. She was already so attached...
"Abooooout...ten minutes..." Vee said, checking a smaller ball and then began fishing all the smaller ones out and putting them back on the baking sheet to rest.
"The spaghetti cooks for about seven minutes and the meat will be done just a touch after that, with resting and everything." She reached over and stirred the noodles quickly before going back to the meat. "When you make any kind of meat, by the way, you have to let it rest before you eat it. That gives all the yummy juices and flavors time to go back into the meat. Maybe like five minutes or some. It tastes better if you let it rest."

"It smells wonderful... I can't wait to try it all together."
He just took notice that he had no kitchen table. He had always ate either in the kitchen or at his desk. He looked around and then began to clean his desk off. He only had one chair but he could flip the trashcan over and sit on that. He moved the laptop that sat on the desk onto a stack of books. He tidied up those stacks too. He would have to get more furniture if this friendship became solid. Just a kitchen table and some chairs... and more dishes... and cookware... He frowned softly. What colors would he pick to influence guests in the room to not be scared away from what made him Benedict Hidzenboosh?
"I was thinking of getting... more furniture for this place... do you know where I could get some?"
He asked as he moved a stack of books clear across the room to insure they were out of the way.

She smiled and nodded, setting a colander in the sink and draining the pasta into it. "Yeah, there's a furniture store in town, next to the mall. You can always order stuff online too, but it takes forever to get here."
Another minute, and the rest of the meat came out. She flipped off all the burners, moved the sauce onto the counter, and moved the two hot pans back onto the back burners to cool. She gave the meat a few more minutes to rest and then dumped them into the sauce, stirring it all together.
"I could go with you...if you wanted.." she offered softly, not wanting to sound pushy. Despite the fact that he couldn't seem to feed himself properly, Ben was an adult, not some child she'd adopted. Another trip to the other counter, and she pulled out a loaf of bread with a crunchy crust and a soft pillowy inside, slicing it up. Finally, she pulled a cheese grater with parmesan in it out of the refrigerator, setting it by the sauce.
"Alright, done." She said proudly, standing back with her hands on her hips, looking over their work.

Ben wandered into the kitchen and marveled at the food.
"I would like to have help picking out things... for the apartment..."
He didn't know where to start so he stood there, dumb struck. So much food... did he put it on the bread? No, he could remember spaghetti if vaguely. Sauce on the noodles... bread on the side... meatballs... on top? He licked his lips, staring. He wasn't use to this. Not at all. He felt himself closing up from his lack of surety of what to do. He put his hands in his pocket and looked at Vee.
"Don't laugh but I don't know what to do."
Admittance was better than messing up and trying to play it off that you knew how. He had spent so long being a shut in... He wouldn't fit in society alone even if he wanted to and tried his best. Well, he might be able to, but that would be a lot of bottling up of one self. That would drive him mad.

Vee smiled gently and walked over to him, taking one of his hands out of his pocket and leading him over to the counter.
"No biggy. Sometimes I don't know what to do with so much food around either." She knew that wasn't really the issue, but maybe it would make him feel a little more confident.
"There's no wrong way to eat good food anyways." She picked up a plate and put the noodles on first, then the sauce, making sure to get plenty of meatballs.
"There ya go." She grinned, handing him the plate.
"You can put cheese on it too, and it's really good." She handed him the grinder before picking up the other plate and filling it up as well, going over to get a slice of bread.
"Wine?" She asked, nodding to the bottle beside the counter. "It'll pair well with this, since we used it in the sauce." She trotted into the other room and set her plate on the table before going back into the kitchen to grab the bottle and two glasses from the top cabinet.
