Ben nodded to the wine offer and put cheese on top of his plate, being careful not to cut himself on the grater. When he was finished, he took his plate to the desk and placed it down. He then went to the kitchen and took the trash bag out of the trash can and carried it over to the desk. He turned it over and put it beside his plate--Vee could have the office chair. He waited by his chair, staring at the food, still marveling over the presentation. It was... well, making him want to drool. He picked up a smaller meatball and popped it in his mouth. It was delicious--as delicious as it looked.
"Wine would be fantastic."
He said finally, knowing that wine would indeed taste great with the dish. Wine... he knew wines.

Vee grinned and poured the wine into both glasses, handing him one and setting the other by her plate, finally sitting down herself. She was glad he seemed to like it, by the way he went sort of starry-eyed when he put that meatball in his mouth. Well, the Ben version of starry-eyed it seemed.
She picke dup her fork and tucked in. The first bite was everything she'd been hoping it would be for her first time cooking for Ben. She'd managed to balance the sauce perfectly, something of a feat. She'd never done it before actually, it was usually too heavy on one thing or another.
"You must be magic or something." She giggled after she'd swallowed, licking her lips. "I've never managed to get everything just right before." She cut a meatball in half with the side of her fork and popped it in her mouth, chewing slowly. The chicken was light and went well with the sauce. She paused to take a sip of wine, watching him as he ate.

He ate with forced control. He wanted to in hail it but that would be bad manners. Instead he'd eat a bite, chew it slowly and enjoy, swallow and repeat. Every five bites, he would sip his wine, let it sit on his tongue for a moment then swallow. He raised a brow at her magic comment.
"Magic? I highly doubt that. Maybe it is because the stove was glad to finally be used after a year of neglect."
Did he make a joke? Maybe. Poor one, but maybe. He continued to eat, maybe just a hair faster than before. It was so good. This was definitely better than ramen. He could eat this for lunch every day. He started to plan a new eating schedule when he remembered Vee had said she would cook for him for now on.

Vee smiled and gave a small laugh at his joke.
"Maybe. Im sure it felt a little sad, watching the microwave get all the attention." She was glad he liked the food. She could tell just by looking at him that he was clearly enjoying it. Real food.
She continued to eat, taking small bites and drinking wine whenever she felt a little thirsty. She most certainly did not want to get drunk. Not now that she was for certain attracted to Ben. That would not end well at all.
She blinked in surprise when he thanked her, swallowing slowly. "Of course, any time." She smiled. "Like I said, I like cooking for my friends."

He felt himself grin a little at her response to his joke. So maybe it wasn't as tasteless as he thought. Still, joking wasn't something he was use to doing. His face slipped back into a blank face as he started to come to the end of his plate. It was much more filling than soup and ramen and he couldn't even think of getting more. He focused on his plate as she responded to his statement of gratitude. He continued to look at his plate.
"If a person would do something like this for me in the past, they were undoubtedly looking for information. If not information, they were trying to get something from me that I wasn't willing to give. It made me... callous and distant from others even more than I already was. It made me... think that the world wasn't worth the time of day."
He looked up at her, his head still tilted so he looked through his bangs.
"With you, it doesn't feel like that. So, I not only thank you for the food, but thank you for..."
He moved his hand as if it'd finish for him. When no other words came to mind, he looked back down at his food.

Vee smiled softly and reached across the desk, grasping his hand gently and squeezed, meeting his gaze.
"I think it's awful, that people can be that cruel. Especially to someone like you." She said softly. "I'm glad you decided to trust me. That I can help..." She blushed softly, and pulled her hand back slowly. She bit her bottom lip and picked up her wine, sipping it lightly. Don't give away too much. Not yet. Hell, not ever. What if he thought she was just being nice to get in bed with him? She didn't want that, and she certainly wasn't. She'd only known him for a day and she already cared for him deeply.
"If you're done then I can do the dishes." She smiled. "I dirtied most of them, after all." She'd eaten about half of the food on her plate. She was never very hungry unless she'd had her morning run.

"I'm glad I could trust you, too."
He gave her the slightest of smiles then regarded her question. He glanced down and noticed he had finished what was on his plate. He blinked. Where did it go and so quickly?
He said in response to her offering to do dishes. He didn't want to sound harsh but... He stood up and took both of their plates. He didn't want to make her clean after she had cooked. He wandered to the kitchen and put what was left over on her plate into the bowl used for his service for one set. He then put that bowl in the fridge and began to hand wash the dishes. Like he always did. He didn't speak as he did it and cleaned with the utmost proficiency. He had lived alone for some time so he knew how to clean his dishes so he wouldn't get sick. Though, if this cooking business became routine, he may invest in using the dishwasher. He glanced at it and it's unused self. He didn't have any dishwasher detergent as it stood but he could buy some.
He didn't care if she tried to help him, he would keep her away. He cleaned in silence, unsure of what to say now.

Vee picked up the two glasses and the wine bottle and brought them into the kitchen, setting them on the counter out of the way before going to clean up the bits of the vegetables they'd cut up and the bags from their shopping. She wasn't going to let him clean up everything by himself. She felt bad when her friends insisted they clean up everything after she'd cooked.
She grabbed a paper towel and ducked around him, sticking it under the faucet and getting it wet. She bumped his side playfully as she pulled back, going to wipe down the counter.
"Have any idea what you might want for dinner?" She looked back over her shoulder at him questioningly. She already had a dessert planned out; one she thought he would really enjoy, but they'd have to eat dinner before she'd let him have any of that.

Dinner? He shrugged as he finished the last dish. He set them aside on the counter to dry them, and began to wash his hands. He dried them off before starting to dry the dishes.
"I have no idea."
He would dry the dishes and then stack them on a now clean counter thanks to Vee. After he was done, he took the dish towel and threw it over his shoulder. He leaned back against the counter and propped his torso up with his arms. He played through his mind, trying to think of something, but he always ended up with PB&J.
"Something with... rice?"
He offered, not sure of what else he could possibly think of.
"That is if I don't have a last minute appointment tonight of course..."
He had almost forgot that he accepted visits at night on the weekends. That would mean he would have to either turn his phone back on by replacing the battery or check his e-mail.

Vee tapped her bottom lip, tossing the paper towel in the trash.
"Hmm yeah I think I can whip something up." She nodded. "If you have an appointment I can just bring it to you at the labs." She picked up her glass and finished off her wine. She wondered if she had any kids to talk to today. She'd left her phone at her apartment. If she did, she'd have to run home and shower and change before going.
Truthfully, she had to get her own groceries and had some other errands to do, but she didn't want to leave. Being with Ben just felt good. She wasn't alone for the first time in a year and it felt so good. She imagined this was how her tomato plants felt after being inside all winter.

"That would be great."
He said before going to put his phone back together and turn on his laptop. His laptop's desktop picture was of two young boys, one with his arm around the other boys neck, holding him close. The one being held was blushing but was laughing. That was Ben. The other was taller by just an inch or two, had jet black hair that was spiked up and shades on. He was smirking as he held Ben hostage for a picture. While Ben wore a white t-shirt under a red long sleeved over shirt that had oil stains and the blue jeans he wore were barely visible in the picture. The other had on a black tank top with a band name that had long since faded along with blue jeans as well. There was snow in the background, falling to the ground and house behind them. The picture was off center so one could assume that it was a count down shot and on a tripod. Ben opened his e-mail so it covered the picture. He glanced through a few and closed the laptop. His phone was now on and it vibrated. He deleted every message and missed call that related to his sister. Other than his annoying kin, there was no messages.

Vee grinned. "Great! Maybe we could do dinner at my place?' She tipped her head. "I think I know what Im going to cook and I've got most of the ingredients there." She smiled. "And, well, I need to shower." She laughed, blushing lightly.
"We'll have to stop at the store on the way there though. I need peanut oil and pork." Pork wouldn't be too heavy either and she wasn't sure Ben had ever tried it. She was certain he'd probably never tried it like this.
She tapped her bottom lip, crossing the kitchen absently. "It has to marinate an hour or so..." She also needed ingredients for dessert, positive she didn't have any peanut butter.
"Can I have a piece of paper and something to write with?" She asked, turnign back to Ben. She'd never remember all this without a list.

Vee paused in her writing, frowning thoughtfully.
"Around 6?" That would give her time to go to the store, shower, and get dessert done and hidden before he got over. She bent back over her list, finishing it off and folding it up, sticking it in her pocket.
She glanced at the clock and nodded. "Yeah, 6 should be good, if that's ok with you?" She stood and wandered back over to him.
"I'll see you then?" She grinned cheekily, reaching out and taking his hand, swinging their arms back and forth between them like a kid.

He grinned softly and gently.
"I'll see you at six, Vee."
He picked up her hand and kissed her knuckles. Something he did whenever he left a lady's presence that wasn't at work--that hadn't upset him of course. Vee, clearly, hadn't upset him. In fact, she had made him happy--very happy--to have met her.
