Vee hummed lightly, swaying her hips back and forth to the song playing on her iTunes. She stood at the stove, stirring the asian pork stir fry she was working on. The sudden sound of the door bell ripped her from her little world rather suddenly, causing her to jump.
"Coming!" She called, setting the spoon she'd been using down on a paper towel folded on the counter top beside the stove. She made a quick detour to her laptop, turning off her iTunes. She doubted Ben would want to listen to her odd mix of music.
She paused at the door, making sure she looked ok. She was wearing one of the few tight-fitting pairs of jeans she owned. Her mild discomfort was more than made up for with the way they made her ass look. She turned in front of the mirror beside the coat rack, grinning. Oh yeah. She quickly made sure her bright blue tee had no stains on it or anything of that nature before opening the door.
"Hey! Come in." She grinned, moving out of Ben's way to allow him into the brightly-furnished apartment.

Benedict has spent some time on picking out his clothes. Dressing casual and comfortable was harder than formal. He looked in a window, making sure the collar of his shirt was right and that the buttons were button correctly and that his jeans were dirty. In the reflection of the window, he noticed something behind him. He turned and glanced over his shoulder. A dead... pigeon in the street? Squashed pigeon, he corrected himself. He furrowed his brows as he went to the door. He cleared his throat and made sure his phone was on silent--not vibrate this time. Then, he rang the doorbell. Curiosity had him putting his ear closer to the door. Was that... music? He heard the 'coming' and then the music stopped shortly after that. He sat up straight and put his hands behind his back. When the door opened, he gave a half smile. 'Come in.' she said, and he nodded before walking in.
He glanced her over as he walked in and looked around at the colorful apartment for the second time. Oh the splashes of emotions this place created...
"You look wondeful, Vee."
He wandered away from the door and kept looking around. So... bright... he looked back at her finally with a brow raised.

Vee blushed and smiled, shutting the door behind him.
"Thanks. So do you..." Oh did he ever. She shook her head and followed him into the apartment.
"Dinner's almost ready. Do you want anything to drink?" She padded into the kitchen, letting him wander around the front room.
She was glad he was s curious about the space. She'd filled it with color and things from her travels as well as other random bits and pieces. She'd allowed herself to go a little crazy in this room, preferring to let people see who she was right up front, even if it was just through the way she decorated her living room.
She quickly tucked dessert into the warm oven before pulling out a bottle of her favorite wine and pouring herself a glass, waiting for Ben to reply. "I've got pretty much everything. Just name your poison." She laughed.

"Whatever you are drinking will be fine."
He said as he finished his look around. The room kind of gave him a headache but he took Tylenol before coming over to prevent it. He took a sniff and felt his stomach rumble. After she had left earlier, he began to recreate himself mentally--disconnecting himself from what he still felt from Ricky. It was hard, but he was pretty sure he had reached a numb acceptance. He had his night medication in his pocket should he have to crash here for whatever reason as well as had his dosage set up at the apartment.
He wandered into the dining room and looked around. This one wasn't as fierce on the eyes as the living room but that was because he had mentally prepared himself for it.
"It smells great."
He made the comment as he slowly started to wander to the kitchen.

Vee poured another glass of the wine and crossed the short distance to him, handing him the glass.
"Thanks. I really hope you like it. The flavor is a little...strong. Not in a bad way though. Asian spices can be a little fierce sometimes." She nodded towards the living room. "Sorry, I know it's kind of an explosion. The dining room is a lot calmer, I promise." She'd decorated it to have a sort of Roman flair. It opened out on to the small balcony, where she kept her little garden.
"We can go in there if you like, while dinner is cooking and everything." She took his hand and lead him through the door way on the opposite side of the room.
She'd already set the table for the two of them, ready for dinner. "Im sorry about the front room. I should have cleared it up a little before you came over..." She should have thought about it before. "That's the only room that's like that, believe it or not. Everything else is sort of themed. I just like to be upfront with...how I decorate my living room, I guess?" She laughed. It sounded ridiculous even to her.

Vee took a drink of her wine and lead him out on to the balcony.
"Well, tomatoes. A couple different types of herbs. Not a whole lot." She shrugged lightly. "I wish I could grow more, but I make do with the space I've got." she started showing him the different plants, picking pieces of the herbs and letting him smell and urging him to taste them.
"If you know what they taste like, then you'll have a better understanding of what they go well with and when to use them. I always go with fresh over dried, the flavors are better, but sometimes you don't have an option. Especially in Haven."
She turned. "I need to go check on dinner, Ill be right back. Explore the apartment if you want." she waved her hand lightly.

Ben tried an leaf of each different herb before he was left alone. He looked around. It was pretty out here... His eyes lazily roamed around until they fell on the tomatoes. He blinked at them and then approached them. He turned one gently in his hand. It felt like the tomato he had cut up earlier that day. She had urged him to try the herbs... perhaps one tomato wouldn't hurt. He plucked it from the vine and gently wiped it off with his hand. He gently took a bite and chewed it. He leaned along the railing of the balcony and closed his eyes as he savored the fresh taste of an off the vine tomato. He should grow some himself. Where would he keep them though? He continued to eat the tomato, much like an apple like Vee said she ate hers, until he ran out.
He had a mental image of a mini hanging planter with a series of ropes for the vines to grow along. A watering system would have to be planned for them. He took another without a thought and began to eat that one as well. He was halfway through a third before he realized that he had lost himself in thought. Had his medication finally wore off and caused his brain to jump too far in topics? Because he had stopped his thoughts at having to make sure that Vee could get into his apartment if she needed to. What had brought him to that thought? Oh yes, the tomatoes that he may not be able to water if spending long hours in the office and if he was sick. It was... different, having someone he could trust with this much of his life. Of his mind.
He frowned as a new thought crossed his mind. Could it be?...

Vee had come back into the kitchen to find dinner done. She poured the stir fry into a bowl and the rice she'd cooked earlier into another, placing serving spoons in both and taking them in to the table. She'd gone to tell Ben that dinner was ready, but the site of him staring off into space, eating a tomato, had stopped her. He looked so peaceful like that. As if all those years of being alone and heart broken had melted off.
She smiled and leaned in the door way, just watching him until he seemed to snap out of it. "Dinner's ready." She called gently when it seemed like he was back on this planet.
"Would you like more wine?" She asked, leading him back into the dining room and picking up the bottle to refill her own glass. She'd set out chop sticks with the usual utensils. She liked to eat with them, but she wasn't sure Ben could use them.
"Help yourself." She grinned, gesturing to the food. "Usually rice underneath with everything else on top, but you can do it however." she offered, remembering earlier that afternoon.

Ben blushed slightly as if he was busted doing something he shouldn't have. He shuffled inside and blinked when she asked about the wine. He nodded and placed his glass down before staring at all the food. It was different compared to the spaghetti. When she explained how it was served, he nodded. He put rice down, a nice even layer, then put the toppings on. That was when he noticed the chop sticks. He would wait for her to sit before he would sit himself then pick up the chopsticks. He knew of what they were, but not how to use them. He fidgeted with them for a bit, frowning when he couldn't quiet get them to work. He huffed and look at her.
"How do you use these?"
He looked like a confused child: shoulders slumped, chopsticks crooked and wrong, his brows furrowed with confusion and annoyance (only slightly!) and a slight frown. He wanted to know how to use it. He didn't think he could eat until he knew how.

Vee poured more wine into his glass and then served herself. She was just about to tuck in when she heard his disgruntled question.
"Like this." She said gently, explaining how to hold the chopsticks and how to eat with them.
"It's a little difficult and it takes practice, so don't worry if you can't do it." She gestured to the fork beside his plate.
"That's what that's there for."
She reached over and corrected the way he was holding his hand. "And then you just..." She guided his hand over to his plate and moved him so they were picking up a piece of pork. She guided his hand back up, stopping in front of his mouth.
"Like that." She grinned brightly, sitting back in her seat and picking up her chopsticks again.

Ben ate the pork that had been power lifted to his mouth and savored it. It was indeed amazing. He kept using the chopsticks, incredibly focused. He would use them just as Vee was even if that meant that it took him 4 hours to eat one serving. He finally got another bite set up--though small--and ate it. Victory tasted better.
"It is very good, Vee."
He said before beginning to take another bite. He glanced back at the living room out of the corner of his eye.

Vee chewed slowly, mulling over his question. What was her favorite place? She'd been to so many...
"Rome." She answered finally.
"Definitely Rome. It's just...the people are pretty nice and the food is absolutely amazing." 'And the boys know how to fuck.' she added mentally, a laugh trying to force it's way out and making her smile stupidly.
"It's a beautiful city full of beautiful things." She sipped her wine, trying to sort her thoughts. "Like, I'll go and spend a whole weekend just eating and visiting museums. Then Ill go the next week and visit art galleries..." She allowed herself a goofy smile, remembering all the time she'd spent in that city, walking the streets and eating the food.

"You must have learned a lot."
He commented absentmindedly. He never really traveled. He poked at his rice for a bit. He was jealous of her travels and chances to learn so much. He liked to go to museums. Whenever he did leave--which was rare--to get away from his studies, it was to go to the museums. He normally would go to the human anatomy pars though to see if he could learn anything new.
"Did you always get a souvenir for all your visits?"
Post by Vichee Founder on Aug 17, 2011 18:11:55 GMT -5
"Not always." She shrugged.
"If something catches my fancy, I get it and bring it back." She watched him, the jealousy nearly radiating off of him. She understood some what. She hated not being able to travel anymore. At least she had been able to travel while she could. It sounded like Ben had basically been a shut-in since high school.
She stirred her food around with her chopsticks.
"Sometimes I wonder why they can't let the people without Chimera go in and out." She sighed. "Not like that would help me, but at least then you could go out." a sad little smile slipped over her face.
"Seppa keeps me here, but I don't think that should mean those with out should have to be bound to this place..." She'd noticed, even among the students, that one couldn't help but feel a little bitterness towards this town and the walls surrounding it.
