For Your Consideration .I look inside your eyes and see a different part of me Pawns: Ben and Vee .So many things I've been missing, not watching but Status: private/active .Now I realize Setting: Vee's new house .The part of me so long forgotten is calling Scene: Vee invites Ben over for lunch .And this feels like home
Vee pushed open the gate to the fence surrounding the small cottage and lead Ben in.
"Here we are!" She said brightly, happiness welling in her chest as she looked over the house. It was so nice, and perfect for her in her opinion. It was a small cottage-like building, with vines climbing up the side of the house and beautiful flower beds in the front.
She padded up the stone path, Ben in tow. The door opened without her having to unlock it, another bad habit she occasionally employed even in the cities she visited. Too trusting, her father always said.
"Make yourself at home." She chirped, slipping his leather jacket, her hoodie, and his scarf off and laying them over the back of a chair next to the door. Completely forgetting they were supposed to be acting as though they'd never met, she left him in the entrance, padding into the partially-finished front room and crouching in front of the fire place to move the ashes from the night before back out of the way, situating the leftover logs around to her liking.

Ben knocked the dirt off his shoes outside before coming in. He closed the door behind him. He began unbuttoning his jacket and folded it neatly to be placed beside the chair. He santered into the room, his eyes lazily skimming over everything. Make himself at home? He gave himself a tour of the place, curious to see how she was going to set it all up. He walked slowly and quietly, taking it all in in stride.
"You seem to be doing well for yourself."
He said as he returned to the living room finally.

"Yeah well, I needed to make up for lost time." She called over her shoulder, stuffing crumpled paper in between the logs. There was still a small stack leftover from the night before, but she'd have to get some more soon.
"I...had a bit of an accident a little bit ago." She shrugged. "I'm alright now though, for the most part."
She stood and strode over to the couch, pulling the painting tarp off of it. "Please, sit. I need to go pull the pork out and let it warm up on the counter a bit."
A bright smile in his direction, and then she hurried into the kitchen. She just needed a moment to gather herself. Then she'd be fine. She had to be fine, or she'd scare him off again.

He sat and waited silently. He leaned back and lounged within the cushion confines that was the sofa. He closed his eyes and leaned his head back. His hands went to work to 'fix' his hair enough so it wasn't in his eyes or in his face. It did little to no good but he tried anyway. When he finally got frustrated, he leaned forward, fluffed his hair then let it go. He then knitted his fingers together and sat in silence, waiting for her to return.

Vee leaned against the counter and closed her eyes, tipping her head back. This was torture. It was like she had Ben back but she didn't at the same time, with this distance. She didn't want to ignore the past. A frustrated groan forced it's way from her throat and she leaned her head forward again, rubbing her eyes vigorously. Alright. She could do this. It would be fine. She would be fine. They would be fine.
She yanked the pork out of the fridge and set it on the counter. She couldn't leave Ben waiting any longer.
"Sorry about that." She smiled, pushing open the door to the kitchen. "Want anything to drink? I have water and...alcohol..." She laughed, rubbing the back of her neck. She hadn't been drinking much else recently. Probably a bad thing, but at least water was making up most of that.

"A stiff drink would be nice."
He said, staring at the fire place from where he sat. He didn't do much else. He wasn't sure what to do but he had waited long enough. He enjoyed her company and he missed it. He leaned back as his eyes slid over a few things in the room. It was out of boredom somewhat. She had so much stuff for a single woman living on her own for a while. He couldn't imagine so much stuff in such a small amount of time she must have lived. His eyes landed on a tube of bubbles and he stared at them. Bubbles? At her age? Why would she... he mentally face palmed. It was Vee. She'd collect whatever the hell she wanted to and have no remorse or regret.

Vee nodded and padded back into the kitchen. She grabbed a glass tumbler and wine glass out of the cabinet and set them on the counter before throwing open her liquor cabinet. Something stiff...hm.. She chewed her bottom lip, gazing at the bottles. Finally she settled on a bottle of Everclear. Maybe that would be stiff enough for Ben. She filled the Tumblr half way and set the bottle back on the counter, not bothering with the putting the cap back on. He'd probably want more knowing Ben. She pulled a chilled bottle of red wine out of the little wine cooler on the counter, filling her glass and setting the wine back on the counter next to the Everclear bottle.
She picked both up and padded back into the living room, giving him the tumbler and sitting down beside him, curling one leg beneath herself and sipping her wine delicately.
"The pork just needs another minute." She murmured softly. "I've got vegetables from last night still, so I don't need anything prepared."

He picked up the tumbler and blinked at it. Such a strong smell.
"What is this?"
He asked before sniffing it closer. Oh god that was indeed a strong smell. His brows shot up, disappearing under the curls of his hair. That'll put hair on ones chest, as the saying goes. Before hearing the answer, he drank a large swallow. He winced but not from pain. That was a stiff drink for sure.
"Holy son of a holy man."
Was his nose hairs burning? He was pretty sure they were burning. Oh god, what the hell did she make, a super drink?

Vee's eyes glinted mischievously.
"Everclear. What's wrong, don't you like it?" She cocked her head to one side, eyes and voice feigning innocence. Tonight she'd tested his limits, that was for sure.
"It's a bit strong, I know." She smiled, taking another small sip of her wine.
"If you can't handle it, I can get you something different." She knew he wouldn't ask her to do that. If there was one thing she'd really learned about Ben, it was that as long as she put it in front of him, he would keep eating or drinking, even if he didn't like it.

He fought with himself mentally. When was the last time he got drunk--really drunk. Before Haven, that was for sure. That was so long ago. His brain racked through for the information. He looked at the glass as it began to trickle into him.
"That stuff is illegal in most places because of how potent it is."
He raised a brow at her.
"How did you get it?"
He looked back at the glass and frowned. It must have been hard to come by so he best not be rood. He downed the rest and put the glass on his knee, his face scrunched up in a wince from the state. Oh he was so going to regret this. He shook his head as if to shake the expression he had away from his face.

"I have my ways." Vee smiled around the rim of her wine glass. She unfurled her legs and stood, setting her glass on the table.
"I should start lunch. Care to join me in the kitchen?" She picked her glass up again and headed back towards the swinging door separating the kitchen from the front room, throwing a little sway into her hips as she walked. She'd missed this, being with Ben. Even if it was a tad strained, it was still wonderful.
Once in the kitchen, she moved both bottles to the tall, square island in the middle of the room, making sure they were closest to the side lined with stools. She then set down her glass next to the wine bottle and went about pulling out pans and the vegetables, spices, and oil she'd need to do this.

He started to follow her and noticed the sway in her hips. Normal but not at once. He froze, his head suddenly swimming. His brain was running at 100mph and he couldn't slow it down. He put a hand to his forehead, willing his brain to STFU and finally started forward again. He moved into the kitchen and sent to sit on the stool in the corner.
"What are you going to make?"
He asked as he sat his empty glass down on the counter.

"Pork curry and rice." She answered brightly, nearly dancing across the floor.
She stopped by the island and poured more Everclear into his glass before going back to putting the pan on heat and pouring oil it to get hot. Ducking into the cabinet beside the stove, she pulled out a cutting board and then grabbed her favorite knife out of the drawer where she kept such things. Pulling the pork out of it's packaging, she put it on the board and began to butcher it and cup it into strips, pausing only to put the garlic, carrots, and potatoes into the hot oil.
She moved quickly around the kitchen in a way she knew Ben hadn't seen before. Usually she went slowly when he was with her, so he could observe and learn. He seemed to have a handle on his food for himself though, so now she was moving at her normal cooking-speed, one moment putting the pot of water on the stove, the next putting onions and spices into the pan of cookign veggies.

He nearly face palmed when she poured more. Before he could protest, she whirled away and he watched her cook. His shoulders slumped for a moment before he downed his new cup. He winced and put the cup on the table. Woman was aiming to get him drunk... well, it was working. He was getting tipsy at the rate he was drinking. One more in the next half hour, and he would be tipsy for sure. Six more in the next hour, he'd be lit. So well lit.
"It looks like you have it down pat. Personal recipe or... non... personal..."
He put his hand on his forehead. Shit, did he take that medication? That would so make it worse... so much for that well trained tolerance against the stuff.

"It's just something I throw together every once and while." She smiled. "So personal. I'm not even sure if it's technically a curry. I just call it that because of the spices and the way it's cooked." She laughed.
Good, he was downing it almost as soon as she put it in front of him. She turned the heat down on the pan and then poured rice into the boiling pot of water. She slipped back over and took a long drink of her wine, pouring herself more of that and him more of the Everclear.
She darted away just as quickly as she'd come over, tossing the meat in with the vegetables. Within another ten minutes, everything was finished. She fixed them both plates, handing him one and sitting beside him at the island with the other.
"Eat up!" She grinned, topping off both their drinks.
